If You Are Trying To Get Over Someone You Are In Love With, This Is For You https://pakiholic.com/if-you-are-trying-to-get-over-someone-you-are-in-love-with-this-is-for-you/ Tue, 12 Jun 2018 08:49:20 +0000 http://pakiholic.com/?p=7578 By M.R.

Getting over someone is a hard, long and time-taking process especially if you are trying to forget someone you have been in a relationship with. While it’s completely understandable to feel that it might never happen, understand that there’s light at the end of the tunnel and you WILL get over that bad breakup that screwed you over.

There are no hard and fast rules as to what might help let go but with certain strategies and time, your pain will fade. Just believe in yourself and keep trying.

Remove them from your social media:

It’s important to delete/unfollow them so you don’t see their posts on your timeline randomly and are reminded of them. You don’t need to be know what’s going on in their lives because it’s only gonna remind you of all the good times you shared with them making the whole process very difficult.

Don’t stay in touch:

Some people decide to stay friends after a breakup, but trust me on this: IT IS NOT A GOOD IDEA. You will never get your closure if you stay in touch. Get some space and break away completely right after the breakup.

Don’t rebound:

DO NOT, in any circumstances, get in a relationship with someone just because you miss your ex. It will only make the whole process of letting go and move on complicated. Give yourself some time to heal, you will feel like yourself in no time.

Delete all texts/pictures that remind you of them:

Even if you cut off all ties, it will still be hard to get over them if your life is filled with reminders of that person. The best practice is to get rid of all photos and texts you still have of them. The less you see of them everyday, the better it is for your healing process. Oh and yes, get rid of those love songs you are listening on repeat.

Live life and move on:

It will seem hard at first but if you push yourself hard enough, you can do this. Understand that a breakup doesn’t mean the end of the world. Go out with friends, meet new people and enjoy your life while you can.

There is no set time limit for healing because love is a messy emotion and each relationship has its own memories and feelings. Give yourself time and everything will be all right.

Here’s How Ads Are Specifically Tailored For You: SECRET REVEALED https://pakiholic.com/heres-how-ads-are-specifically-tailored-for-you-secret-revealed/ Sat, 09 Jun 2018 20:33:43 +0000 http://pakiholic.com/?p=7563 By M.R.

I kept hearing that Facebook/Google stores all our information whenever we search something and show us ads based on that information but I never really knew how that worked until I came across this Twitter thread by who perfectly explained how these ads are tailored according to the choices we make on the internet.

Here’s an easy read for you if you are wondering how those adverts manage to keep on finding you – even when you go incognito, switch devices, or never actually searched for the product in the first place?

Re-marketing/re-targeting through cookies:

You visit a website and it stores a cookie in your web browser. You return later on, the cookie identifies you and the site shows you products you were looking at earlier. Old hat (unless you live in the 1990s), but important to understand for what’s coming next.

You visit a website and it stores a cookie from a third-party ad network. Later on you visit a different site that carries ads from the same network. They see the cookie and display ads based on what you were looking at earlier.

Through grouped audiences:

You open Google and search for a product or website, which helps Google build up a profile of you and your interests. Later on you use your Google account to sign in somewhere else, and you see ads based on this profile (not that you can turn ads personalisation off if you want to).

You’re logged in to Facebook. You visit a website and it has Facebook’s tracking pixel (or like button) installed, which lets Facebook know you’re there. Later on you visit Facebook, and your newsfeed contains adverts based on what you were looking at earlier.

Facebook doesn’t let website owners single you out for these adverts (nor does it sell your data to them). Ads are targeted at groups e.g. people who visited a site in the last 30 days. These groups are called “audiences”.

You visit a website and create an account with them. They upload a list of customer email addresses to Google / Facebook / Twitter etc. to target a campaign. Later on you visit one of these sites, and you see adverts based on what you were looking at earlier.

Through fingerprinting:

You turn on incognito mode (aka “private browsing”), which limits things like cookies. The ad network records other information about your system instead, e.g. web browser, IP address, operating system, screen size, time zone etc.

Later on you visit a site where this network displays ads. They recognise your browser fingerprint (albeit with varying degrees of accuracy) and you see adverts based on what you were looking at earlier, even though you were using incognito mode.

You log into the same online account on more than one browser or device. The provider of the account associates the different fingerprints with your account. Adverts targeted at your account can now follow you from one browser / device to another.

You carry more than one device and you never log into the same account on both, but you do connect them to the same WiFi networks at the same times, and you use both devices to visit sites that contain trackers from the same ad network. Boom, your devices are associated.

Through device ID:

You install an app on your phone. Apps don’t use cookies, but your phone sends a unique device ID to the app creator instead. Later on you open a different app and see ads based on the app you were using earlier.

You install an app on your phone, and then sign in to it using one of your online accounts. You guessed it: your device ID is now associated with that account. Later on you see ads based on your apps when you’re using the account on your computer.

Lookalike Audience:

You never actually visited a particular site, but other people did. You go on Facebook and see ads for it, because your profile is similar to those other people, and the whole group is being targeted. The group you belong to is called a “lookalike audience”.

You never actually visited a particular site, but you share an IP address with people who did, e.g. you and your flatmates are all using the same broadband router. Later on you see ads from that site, because you are all being targeted at your (shared) IP address.

You never actually visited a particular site, but you were in close proximity to other people who did, and you were all signed in to a service with access to your location data. Later on you see ads from that site, because the whole group is being targeted.

After all this, it may surprise you to hear that personalised ads are anything like the problem they are sometimes made out to be.

PROUD MOMENT FOR PAKISTAN: Desi Author Wins UK’s Women’s Prize For Fiction https://pakiholic.com/proud-moment-for-pakistan-desi-author-wins-uks-womens-prize-for-fiction/ Thu, 07 Jun 2018 18:00:50 +0000 http://pakiholic.com/?p=7549 By M.R.

When it comes to literature, there’s no doubt that some of the finest work is being produced in Pakistan. Not only are our writers and their books appreciated and recognized in Pakistan, but internationally as well.

Some of the biggest names like Mohsin Hamid, Saba Imtiaz, Mohammad Hanif, Bapsi Sidhwa have bagged several international literary awards over the years.

This time around, Kamila Shamsie, a British-Pakistani author has made Pakistan proud by winning the international Women’s Prize for Fiction with “Home Fire,” a novel about love, radicalism and conflicting loyalties in the post-9/11 era.

The Women’s Prize for Fiction is one of the United Kingdom’s most prestigious literary prizes. It is awarded annually to a female author of any nationality for the best original full-length novel written in English and published in the United Kingdom in the preceding year.

This was the third time Shamsie has been nominated for this award. She beat five other finalists that included American writer Jesmyn Ward, who had been bookies’ favorite for her National Book Award-winning novel “Sing, Unburied, Sing.”

She was awarded the 30,000 pound ($40,000) prize at a ceremony in London. Loosely based on Sophocles’ ancient Greek tragedy “Antigone,” her novel centers on three British Muslim siblings torn apart when one joins the Islamic State group.

Home Fire is a remarkable book and is about identity, conflicting loyalties, love and politics. And it sustains mastery of its themes and its form.

Previously, the book Home Fire had also been longlisted for the 2017 Man Booker prize and shortlisted for the Costa novel award.

It is indeed a very proud moment for all Pakistanis to see our writer’s work get acknowledged by international platforms.

Find Your Escape From The Hot Weather By Visiting This Beautiful Valley This Weekend https://pakiholic.com/find-your-escape-from-the-hot-weather-by-visiting-this-beautiful-valley-this-weekend/ Thu, 07 Jun 2018 00:55:50 +0000 http://pakiholic.com/?p=7529 By M.R.

Looking for a cool escape in this harsh weather? Well, pack your bags and head towards Kalam Valley that is not only relatively colder but extremely beautiful and serene as well – giving you a refreshing break from a monotonous routine.

Situated in the upper reaches of Swat Valley, Kalam Valley is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful locations in Pakistan.

Source: UNKNOWN

It is surrounded by lush green hills, thick forests and bestowed with mesmeric lakes, meadows and waterfalls making it a perfect location to spend a weekend away from home.

Source: UNKNOWN

The valley offers every luxury to nature lovers and adventure seekers, however, to explore its over 50 glacial lakes one has to trek on the narrow bends and steep cliffs – making it a great holiday experience.

Queen Elizabeth II during her visit to Swat State in 1961 rightly called it the Switzerland of the East as Swat is an abode of high mountains, green meadows, tall waterfalls and clear lakes.

This valley is amazing and enchanting for its serenity and beauty. It gives respite from the busy and noisy daily life in the city.

One should definitely go there to relax and regain some peace of mind as there is very little to no population and noise there.

Kalam has extensive number of elevated icy lakes, among them Mahodand lake and Kundol lake are extremely prominent because of their simplicity of availability. Yet, others like Izmis lake, which is situated in closeness with Kundol lake is one of the staggering one in the locale. The vast majority of these lakes are available through dull trekking over rich green trails over the way.

Nature is at its full bloom in the entire valley, right from Anakar to the lake, where one can enjoy the blue streams gushing passionately, the lush green pastures, the thick forests and the colourful small flowers that welcome visitors with their fragrance.

With a gentle and by and large warm and calm atmosphere, Kalam highlights a sticky subtropical atmosphere.

The normal temperature in Kalam is 13.4 °C, while the yearly precipitation midpoints 639 mm. Indeed, even in the driest months, there is a great deal of precipitation.

So if you are planning to spend a weekend away from the city life, head over to Kalam Valley now!

Dear Karachi, This Is Why Jibran Nasir Should Be Your New Leader https://pakiholic.com/dear-karachi-this-why-jibran-nasir-should-be-your-new-leader/ Tue, 05 Jun 2018 11:40:29 +0000 http://pakiholic.com/?p=7505 A blissful news to the ears: Mohammad Jibran Nasir will be contesting general election 2018 from Karachi!

The rights activist aspired to contest from the constituencies in general election 2013 but could not win a seat.

However, he just broke the news about him filing nomination papers from the National Assembly constituency NA-247 which was previously NA-250, and provincial assembly constituency PS-11 which was earlier known as PS-113. He’s going to come up as an independent candidate for these constituencies.

“I am filing nomination papers for the national and provincial seats but will eventually contest from one seat when the campaign officially starts as per election schedule,” he said.

“Politics today has been restricted to personalities and cult following due to which public issues and ideological politics have taken a back seat. A glaring example is the fact that not only those who were elected MNA and MPA from my constituency but even the CM of this province has to order water tankers to meet requirements at their personal residence.

“Perhaps, because they are able to afford this expensive arrangement they have failed in the last five years to address the issue of scarcity of water which has now become a national emergency,” he added.

Reasons to Vote For Him:

1. Young Leader

Unlike all the other politicians that we currently have in our country, Nasir is young and understands the needs of the present as well as the future. Those times are gone when aged people ruled the country. Let’s be serious, we have seen awful examples from our past. This 31 year old deserves a chance for his ideas.

“The youth of this country has the potential to change the political landscape of Pakistan and for that, we cannot afford to wait for opportunities. We need to believe in ourselves, take the initiative and create opportunities.” he said

2. Lawyer By Profession

Not only does he have an advantage over his age but he has an in-depth knowledge of rights and legal matters. He has also worked on the sensitive cases such as Mashal Khan, Shahzaib Murder Case, against the acquittal of Khadija Siddiqui case, and he is still pursuing an appeal against Abdul Aziz of the Lal Masjid.

3. He’s Contesting Independently

That means what? No driven by our current political party system but standing up for his own beliefs and fairplay. That’s a HUGE thing; Nasir doesn’t have a political association with any political party.

4. He Sees Violent Extremism a Major Threat Which Has Been Ignored By Others

“I have been on the ground in Karachi,

Thar, Lahore, Islamabad, [and] Parachinar, working with various marginalised groups and, in the process, gaining firsthand experience of the injustice caused by our political system.

“From political parties to State institutions to influential feudal lords, to property tycoons, to media channels, to terror outfits, I have experienced how power, religious provocation, the threat of force and/or money are used to manoeuver the system at the expense of the ordinary citizen.

“I have also paid the price of confronting these forces but it is due to the support of the people that I have never backed down; in fact, together, we have been able to push back — in some instances — even managed to hold the guilty accountable and only got more encouragement to work for the collective welfare of the people.”

“There is hardly any recognition for merit, expertise, integrity. The tragic result is in front of us. Those who can serve the country best either shy away from politics or not allowed to enter without compromising on their principles. And we are left at the mercy of an apathetic ruling elite,” he remarked.

Eid Ul Fitr 2018 in Pakistan: DATES REVEALED https://pakiholic.com/eid-ul-fitr-2018-in-pakistan-dates-revealed/ Tue, 05 Jun 2018 02:52:05 +0000 http://pakiholic.com/?p=7472 By M.R.

Now that we are almost into the last ashra of the holy month of Ramadan, celebrations and preparations of Eid Ul Fitr have already begun. Muslims from around the world are prepping up to celebrate this festival after a month-long period of fasting.

Photo: GETTY

This year, Ramadan in Pakistan started on the same day as the rest of the world so naturally one would think that the upcoming Eid ul Fitr would also fall on the same day but that, however, is not the case.

As per the predictions by a local astronomer in UAE, it is highly likely that the Shawwaal moon is sighted in that part of the world on the evening of June 14 and the first day of Eid is on Friday, 15th June. Thus, Ramadan is expected to comprise of 29 days this time around in UAE.

However, according to an official from Pakistan Meteorological Department, as per scientific calculations, there are very slim chances of Eid to fall on Friday, June 14 in Pakistan.

This means that Pakistanis will observe fast for 30 days this year and celebrate Choti Eid on Saturday, 16 June.

However, this is only a prediction and nothing has been confirmed so far. In case the estimation proves to be incorrect, Pakistanis will be celebrating Eid Ul Fitr on June 15 with the rest of the world.

A meeting of the central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is scheduled to take place on Thursday, June 14, which will confirm the Shawwaal moon sighting. Till then, nothing can be known for sure.
