Muhammad Ibrahim, son of Air Vice Marshal Muhammad Athar Shams, was shot by a sentry at Naval Complex gate when the driver zoomed past Zafar Gate, E-8 instead of stopping for ID verification and inspection.

Ibrahim, an 8th grade student at Bahria College, accompanied by his younger brother, was on his way to school when the incident happened.

The driver had rushed through the entry gates towards Margalla Road – gates that could only be used by PN officers – and failed to stop the vehicle for verification due to which the naval guard, Hameed, opened fire on him.

The bullet hit the 14 year old in the spine and was immediately moved to Pakistan Air Force (PAF) hospital E-9. The doctors managed to remove the bullet from the body successfully, however, the boy is reported to be paralyzed waist down due to the surgery.

A formal investigation has been launched and CCTV footage from the nearest gates have been retrieved.

It is extremely saddening that a young boy had to go through all this. We pray that may God give Ibrahim’s family the patience to deal with this.

Pakistan COAS among Forbes ‘World’s Most Powerful People’ https://pakiholic.com/pakistan-coas-among-forbes-worlds-most-powerful-people/ Thu, 10 May 2018 14:06:13 +0000 http://pakiholic.com/?p=6782 Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa has been featured in the Forbes ‘Most Powerful People in the World’ list and people of Pakistan have different opinions on this.

General Bajwa is Pakistan’s 10th army chief and over the years has earned the Nishan-e-Imtiaz and Hilal-i-Imtiaz. According to the Forbes list, Gen. Qamar Bajwa has been placed as the 68th most powerful man in the list of 75.

He is one of the 17 new people on the list, along with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia (KSA) and French President Emmanuel Macron, among other notable people.

What is more admirable however, is the fact that the general is the only Pakistani to feature on the prestigious list of the most powerful people in the world.

“Out of the 75 members, 17 are newcomers. Among them there are presidents, billionaires, heads of organisations, CEOs, and one special counsel. One commonality: Their words and actions impact a large number of people, businesses, and even entire economies,” said the report at Forbes.

China’s President Xi Jinping is on top the list, demonstrating the great power one man has. The formidable economic stronghold President Xi Jingping has cannot be ignored.

The other people on top after President Xi Jinping are Russian President Vladimir Putin (2nd spot), US President Donald Trump (3rd spot) and German Chancellor Angela Merkel (4th spot). Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been ranked on number nine on the list.

“There are nearly 7.5 billion humans on planet Earth, but these 75 men and women make the world turn. Forbes’ annual ranking of The World’s Most Powerful People identifies one person out of every 100 million whose actions mean the most,” the magazine added.

It should also be noted that  Pakistan’s then army chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani and ISI chief Lt Gen Zaheerul Islam also made it to the Forbes Most Powerful People List in 2012.

The question rises here, are military leaders only the formidable force coming out of Pakistan? Would there be no business tycoon, politician, revolutionary, philanthropist coming out of Pakistan to take the lead? Times are changing, hope Pakistan is ready for the change.

North and South Korea Holding First-Ever Summit Together https://pakiholic.com/north-and-south-korea-holding-first-ever-summit-together/ Fri, 27 Apr 2018 09:58:45 +0000 http://pakiholic.com/?p=6294 Holding hands, North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un and South Korean President Moon Jae-in met at the demilitarized zone between the countries on Friday (27th April 2018) in the first summit for the two Koreas in over a decade. Both the leaders seem to be in a light conversation, and are smiling as they walk at the location.

Source: BBC

Scenes of Moon and Kim joking and walking together seems contradictory to 2017’s political notion of North Korean missile tests, successful and unsuccessful, and its largest ever nuclear test that led to international sanctions from most major powers in the world, and fears of a new conflict in the Korean peninsula. Both the states have a political backing of super powers, South Korea has been a western ally while its northern counterpart is historically backed by the Russian communist block.

The dramatic meeting, aimed at ending their decades-long conflict which has been prolonged through the Cold War. This meeting comes a few weeks before Kim is due to meet United States President Donald Trump to discuss denuclearizing the Korean peninsula.

Source: CNN

Wives of both the leaders would be joining the meeting, for a banquet today after their historic summit, spokesman for the South’s President Moon Jae-in said.

The presence of the two first ladies, Ri Sol Ju and Kim Jung-sook, had previously been up in the air.

Kim said before the two Korean leaders and top aides began talks at the border truce village of Panmunjom. “We are at a starting line today, where a new history of peace, prosperity and inter-Korean relations is being written”

Source: CNN

During their private meeting, Kim told Moon he came to the summit to end the history of conflict and joked he was sorry for keeping Moon up with his late night missile tests, a South Korean official said.

Kim told Moon he would be willing to visit the presidential Blue House in Seoul, and wanted to meet “more often” in the future, the official said.

A spokesman of South Korean President said the North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and the South’s President Moon Jae-in discussed denuclearization and a permanent peace on the Korean peninsula at their summit Friday. Peace is much needed in this area.

“The two leaders had a sincere and frank dialogue over the denuclearization and the establishment of permanent peace of the Korean peninsula and development of inter-Korea ties,” said Yoon Young-chan.

Pak-India to Conduct First-Ever Military Drill Together https://pakiholic.com/pak-indian-to-conduct-first-ever-military-drill-together/ Thu, 26 Apr 2018 09:52:41 +0000 http://pakiholic.com/?p=6275 Pakistan and India has had a rusty relationship since the inception of both nation states. Military hostilities have been present through and through with 3 wars and several skirmishes on the Line of control (LOC). Both the dominant regional powers have stretched a wall of separation ever since the British rule ended in 1947.

Pakistani and Indian military forces, for the first time, will conduct military drills together as both the countries have announced to participate in a multi-nation military exercise to be held in in Russia’s Ural Mountains under the leadership of SCO states, in August 2018.

The exercise is called “Peace Mission 2018”,  a part of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), will focus on counter-terrorism operations in which eight countries, including Pakistan, India, China, Russia will participate side by side. All the efforts would be collaborative missions, and focused on collective security of this region.

Indian Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has made an official  announcement that India will participate in a multi-nation military exercise.

New Delhi also attended for  the first time the Defence Ministers’ meeting at SCO was hosted in China. Meeting ended on a positive notion without blaming one state for harboring terrorists, or promoting non-state actors in disharmony.

In Past Pakistan and  Indian soldiers have operated together as peacekeepers under the United Nations. But this will be the first-ever military exercise in which both the countries will fight together in mock operations  against terrorists. A collective effort to fight terrorism in the region.

“Peace Mission 2018” will be the fifth edition of the multilateral exercise, held once in two years. This is planned by the SCO leadership for collaborative military efforts to counter terrorism.

The SCO was formed in 2001 by China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan. For many critics it is said that it was made to counter the growing influence of NATO in the region, however no such claims have been directly made by any leading state in SCO.

Pakistan and India have been recently given complete membership of SCO and it opens a wide range of possibilities for both the states to have an effective counter-terrorism and conflict resolution mechanism under the umbrella of super powers such as Russia and China. Now the grouping has eight full members, including Pakistan, India and Uzbekistan.

Another four nations have been accorded “observer” status, while six others are “dialogue” partners.

5 Pakistani Weapons That Can Win A War https://pakiholic.com/pakistani-weapons/ Tue, 04 Oct 2016 13:51:42 +0000 http://pakiholic.com/?p=284 Ever since Pakistan was founded in the year 1947, it has faced a major threat from India. Being one of the largest countries in the world, India has always had an edge over Pakistan in the conventional warfare. However, whenever, the two countries have faced each other in a war, the result has not been one sided and Pakistan has been able to defend itself successfully. In the earlier days, Pakistan used to rely on the weapons that it bought from the western countries and its ally China. However, with time, Pakistan has been able to develop its own defense industry and today the country manufactures some of the best weapons in the world. We have compiled a list of 5 Pakistani weapons that can win a war. Here they are:

5 – Al-Khalid Tank

5 Pakistani Weapons
Al-Khalid Main Battle Tank

Pakistan is a large country by size and it has vast plains to defend. In the open plains, the most effective ground weapon is often the modern day Tank. Pakistan has been involved in one of the biggest tank battles of all time in 1965. And back then Pakistan army and its tank battalions did well to counter the Indian attacks. Today, in 2016 Pakistan is capable of developing its own tanks. Pakistan has developed the advanced Al-Khalid Tank which is fitted with 125 mm smoothbore gun and has an operational range of 500 km.

4 – Khalid-Class Submarines

5 Pakistani Weapons
Khalid Class Submarine

When it comes to Navy, Pakistan relies heavily on its Khalid-Class Submarines. These diesel-powered submarines are capable of denying the enemy’s attempts to block Pakistan’s important seaports, Gwadar and Karachi. The submarines are fitted with independent air propulsion system that allows them to stay submerged for greater periods of time. This makes them undetectable for longer period of time and allows them to sneak on the enemy at their will. The submarines are capable of hitting targets up to a distance of 50 kilometers.

3 – JF-17 Thunder Multi-Role Fighter Jet

5 Pakistani Weapons
JF 17 Thunder Multi-Role Jet Fighter

It is believed that the modern day wars are fought and won in air. A country without a strong air force has very little to look forward to during a full scale war. Pakistan air force has always played a crucial role in protecting the country during different wars with India. Today Pakistan air force has its own locally manufactured JF-17 Thunder Fighter in its ranks. Developed in collaboration with China, this 4th generation aircraft can reach speeds up to 1,837 Kilometers per hour. This air craft is capable of carrying nuclear weapons and has become one of the major weapons that Pakistan relies on for its defense.

2 – Babur Cruise Missile

5 Pakistani Weapons
Babur Cruise Missile

One of the most fierce and effective modern day weapons is a cruise missile. With the modern day missile and air defense systems gaining the ability to stop the ballistic missiles, the cruise missiles have proven to be quite effective. Pakistan has made its own Babur Cruise Missile which is capable of avoiding the radar and can carry substantial amount of payload to enemy territory up to a distance of 700 kilometers.

1 – Atomic bomb

5 Pakistani Weapons
Atomic Bomb

There have been many fierce weapons in human history that have been feared for the destruction and damage they cause to the enemy. However, no weapon in human history can compete with an atomic bomb when it comes to destruction and inflicting damage to an enemy. Pakistan started its atomic program somewhere in 1970s – 1980s and became a nuclear power officially on May 28 1998. Since then Pakistan has developed its nuclear program aggressively. And today it is believed that Pakistan has somewhere between 100 – 150 atomic bombs. In addition, Pakistan has also made small tactical nuclear weapons that can be used in case of a limited war.

So what do you guys think about these 5 Pakistani weapons that can win a war? Do let us know in the comments section below and don’t forget to share the article with your friends on social media.
