According to the police report, both the parties fired at one another. The armed people on motorcycle tried to rob the people of a camera from the citizen when some other men travelling on a Toyota Vigo nearby came in between and shots were fired from both ends.
The open fire took place and the robbers tried to escape. However, the armed man in SUV fired and killed one of the two motorcyclists trying to escape, while the other one managed to run off.

According to the Boat Basin police reports, the robbers tried to snatch the camera from the citizen whose name is Shahid. The shot robber at the sport was taken to the nearby Jinnah post-graduate Medical Centre, but the robber died on his way to the hospital.

Later on when the inquiry took place, the robber was found out to be a 22 year old Khan Hussain, and used to live in Keamari. Khan Hussain had previous criminal record as well. He was once arrested in 2011 due to street crimes in Boat Basin Police.

There is an ongoing investigation going around at the moment. The police officials are still searching for the men in Vigo and the case has been registered.

Seems like the citizens are slowly taking the law and order in their own hands. Is this because of their lack of faith in the law and order authorities? Karachi has been a hub of street crime for several years, with alleged suspects having political affiliation with the major political parties of Sindh. There is a constant conundrum for the people seeking truth and justice for one another, but how do they do it? Call the police? Wait for the police while the suspect is out there in the open? However, we all also know what happens when the law and order is taken into the hands of the people themselves, cases like Mashal Khan also take place, where innocent people are accused of crimes they may or may not have committed. But one thing is for sure, the conscience of the people of Karachi does not allow street crime any longer.

According to Faisal Edhi, 114 bodies were brought to the Edhi Foundation in Karachi’s Korangi and Sohrab Goth areas in the past few days, out of them at least 65 had died from heatstroke. Most of the citizens who died from heatstroke were residents of Landhi and Korangi.

Faisal Edhi said that most heatstroke victims had died at their home. The people who are victims from Karachi of the on-going heatwave are from all ages.

“People did not get medical help on time, which resulted in their death,” he said.

Highlighting the intensity of the crisis caused by the severe heat, Faisal said that the morgue in Korangi receives around 10-11 bodies per day which are mostly in critical condition. Sindh Health Secretary Dr Fazlullah Pechuho rejected that any of the deceased died due to heat stroke in Karachi.

Most of the victims, Faisal told had expired while going about doing daily chores in or outside of their homes.

Attempts to independently verify Faisal Edhi’s claims proved inconclusive, as some of the families who lost their loved ones attributed the deaths to pre-existing ailments or other causes while hospital sources declined to comment on.

“Only doctors and hospitals can decide whether the cause of death was heat stroke or not. I categorically reject that people have died due to heat stroke in Karachi, Dr Pechuho said.

Hospitals in Karachi have not received a single heat stroke patient during the last three days, the health secretary claims.

Temperatures in excess of 40 degrees Celsius are expected to persist in Karachi until the end of May as the city is suffering from this intense heatwave.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department issued an alert for the city, saying that “hot to very hot weather is likely to prevail in Karachi this summer season”. A maximum temperature of 44˚C was recorded at 3pm in Karachi on Sunday.

Karachi mayor Waseem Akhtar urged residents to stay indoors during the day to avoid heatstroke.

“Heat is concentrated at Karachi at the moment, and today the mercury soared to 44°C, but we are expecting it to hit 45°C during the next three days, as sea breeze is completely cut off due to small low pressure areas in the Arabian Sea,” PMD Director General Dr Ghulam Rasool.

This is the third heatwave in Karachi of 2018, and the second time this month when the temperature reached 44°C. Previously, on May 3, the metropolis had claimed similar hot and dry conditions due to suspension of sea breeze that keeps the city’s weather moderate and pleasant despite intense climate in the country’s plain areas.

Office chief said the temperature of the Arabian Sea is on the rise due to climate change, and due to this, formation of low pressure areas have increased in the sea, which change the wind direction which affects greatly in the climate change of Pakistan.

The Officer chief also claimed that these low pressure areas are the cause of the cutting off of sea breeze towards the metropolis and the blowing of the north-westerly winds, which are warm and dry, and turn the city into a hot oven.

“In addition to small low pressure areas in the Arabian Sea, there is another tropical cyclone brewing in the sea after Cyclone Sagar, which met its fate in the Gulf of Aden,” said Dr Rasool.

“We are keeping a close eye on the situation of cyclones in the Arabian Sea, and will let people know if it is worth reporting,” he said, also saying that Karachi will have to face more of the hotter days in June.

“The next three days are very crucial for Karachi, as the temperature can reach 45°C at any time,” said the Office chief, and urged people to take precautionary measures. He advised them not to venture out during the day, wear light-coloured clothes and drink plenty of water during Sehar and Iftar timings to prevent dehydration.
