The rights activist aspired to contest from the constituencies in general election 2013 but could not win a seat.

However, he just broke the news about him filing nomination papers from the National Assembly constituency NA-247 which was previously NA-250, and provincial assembly constituency PS-11 which was earlier known as PS-113. He’s going to come up as an independent candidate for these constituencies.

“I am filing nomination papers for the national and provincial seats but will eventually contest from one seat when the campaign officially starts as per election schedule,” he said.

“Politics today has been restricted to personalities and cult following due to which public issues and ideological politics have taken a back seat. A glaring example is the fact that not only those who were elected MNA and MPA from my constituency but even the CM of this province has to order water tankers to meet requirements at their personal residence.

“Perhaps, because they are able to afford this expensive arrangement they have failed in the last five years to address the issue of scarcity of water which has now become a national emergency,” he added.

Reasons to Vote For Him:

1. Young Leader

Unlike all the other politicians that we currently have in our country, Nasir is young and understands the needs of the present as well as the future. Those times are gone when aged people ruled the country. Let’s be serious, we have seen awful examples from our past. This 31 year old deserves a chance for his ideas.

“The youth of this country has the potential to change the political landscape of Pakistan and for that, we cannot afford to wait for opportunities. We need to believe in ourselves, take the initiative and create opportunities.” he said

2. Lawyer By Profession

Not only does he have an advantage over his age but he has an in-depth knowledge of rights and legal matters. He has also worked on the sensitive cases such as Mashal Khan, Shahzaib Murder Case, against the acquittal of Khadija Siddiqui case, and he is still pursuing an appeal against Abdul Aziz of the Lal Masjid.

3. He’s Contesting Independently

That means what? No driven by our current political party system but standing up for his own beliefs and fairplay. That’s a HUGE thing; Nasir doesn’t have a political association with any political party.

4. He Sees Violent Extremism a Major Threat Which Has Been Ignored By Others

“I have been on the ground in Karachi,

Thar, Lahore, Islamabad, [and] Parachinar, working with various marginalised groups and, in the process, gaining firsthand experience of the injustice caused by our political system.

“From political parties to State institutions to influential feudal lords, to property tycoons, to media channels, to terror outfits, I have experienced how power, religious provocation, the threat of force and/or money are used to manoeuver the system at the expense of the ordinary citizen.

“I have also paid the price of confronting these forces but it is due to the support of the people that I have never backed down; in fact, together, we have been able to push back — in some instances — even managed to hold the guilty accountable and only got more encouragement to work for the collective welfare of the people.”

“There is hardly any recognition for merit, expertise, integrity. The tragic result is in front of us. Those who can serve the country best either shy away from politics or not allowed to enter without compromising on their principles. And we are left at the mercy of an apathetic ruling elite,” he remarked.

“Mujhe jo thudday ya thappard paray woh meray lyay phool hein” Says the man beaten by PML-N workers https://pakiholic.com/mujhe-jo-thudday-ya-thappard-paray-woh-meray-lyay-phool-hein-says-the-man-beaten-by-pml-n-workers/ Tue, 29 May 2018 09:48:39 +0000 http://pakiholic.com/?p=7346 As absurd as it sounds, this is absolutely true. In an interview this is what he had to say:

This happened after the PML-N man gets beaten up by Nawaz Sharif’s security after attempted hand-shake.

This took place in Lahore, where PML-N leaders gathered to mark the country’s 1998 nuclear tests and celebrated.

According to footage aired, a middle-aged man is seen running toward Nawaz Sharif. He brought forward his hand in an attempt to shake hands with nawaz Sharif and before he could success, the security of PML-N got to the point and thrashed the supporter while millions of people watch on national television, and several in the auditorium.

Later on, PML-N leader Khawaja Saad Rafique intervened, rescued the man and took him to the side while the crowd seemed to be against him and wanted to thrash the poor man.

The former prime minister also got to the thrashed worker after his security clearance.

Maryam Nawaz, who was also present at the venue, spoke against the aggressive response of the security officers, saying that ‘supporters have a special relationship with their quaid [leader].’

Here is a detailed video on the incident that earlier took place:

Pakistani Leaders Who Were Assassinated – Unsolved Mysteries https://pakiholic.com/pakistani-leader-who-were-assassinated-unsolved-mysteries/ Fri, 06 Apr 2018 19:29:49 +0000 http://pakiholic.com/?p=5931 An assassination is a murder of an individual, who is usually a famous celebrity, politician, religious figure or royal. Usually in cases of assassination there is a clear motive – jealousy, political or religious idealism, contract killing, revenge etc. This list outlines the circumstances surrounding the death of 5 of the most famous successful assassinations in world history.

Liaqat Ali Khan

Dawn

Nawabzada Liaquat Ali Khan widely known as Quaid-e-Millat (Leader of the Nation) and Shaheed-e-Millat was one of the leading founding fathers of Pakistan, statesman, lawyer, and political theorist who became and served as the first Prime Minister of Pakistan; in addition, he also held cabinet portfolio as the first foreign, defence, and the frontier regions minister from 1947 until his assassination in 1951. Allegations had been pointed towards the involvement of Afghan monarch Zahir Shah and the United States government in his assassination, though this claim has not merited any substantial evidence. Prior to that, he briefly tenured as the first finance minister in the interim government led by its Governor General Mountbatten.

Ali Khan’s credentials secured him the appointment of Pakistan’s first Prime Minister, Ali Khan’s foreign policy sided with the United States and the West, though his foreign policy was determined to be a part of the Non Aligned Movement. Nonetheless, his influence grew further after Jinnah’s death, and he was responsible for promulgating the Objectives Resolution. In 1951, at a political rally in Rawalpindi, Ali Khan was assassinated by a hired assassin, Said Babrak

On 16 October 1951, Khan was shot twice and killed during a public meeting of the Muslim City League at Company Bagh (Company Gardens), Rawalpindi. The police immediately shot the presumed assassin. Khan was rushed to a hospital and given a blood transfusion, but he succumbed to his injuries. The exact motive behind the assassination has never been fully revealed and a lot of speculation exists about it. An Urdu daily published in Bhopal, India, saw the US hand behind the assassination. Upon his death, Khan was given the honorific title of “Shaheed-e-Millat“, or “Martyr of the Nation”. He is buried at Mazar-e-Quaid, the mausoleum built for Jinnah in Karachi. The Municipal Park, where he was assassinated, was renamed Liaquat Bagh (Bagh means Garden) in his honor. It is the same location where ex-Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto was assassinated in 2007.

Benazir Bhutto

Benazir Bhutto was a Pakistani politician who served as Prime Minister of Pakistan from 1988 to 1990 and again from 1993 to 1996. She was the first woman to head a democratic government in a Muslim majority nation. Ideologically a liberal and a secularist, she chaired or co-chaired the centre-left Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) from the early 1980s until her assassination in 2007.

On the afternoon of 27 December 2007, she gave a speech at a PPP rally held in Rawalpindi’s Liaquat National Bagh. On leaving in a bulletproof vehicle, she opened the car’s escape hatch and stood up to wave to the surrounding crowds. A man stood within two to three metres of the car, fired three gunshots at her, and detonated a suicide vest packed with ball bearings. Bhutto was fatally injured; reports differ as to whether she was hit by bullets or by shrapnel from the explosion.

Bhutto was rushed to Rawalpindi General Hospital but was clinically dead on arrival and attempts at resuscitation were unsuccessful. No autopsy was conducted, and the body was swiftly transported to Chaklala Air Base. The following day, she was buried next to her father in the Bhutto family mausoleum, Garhi Khuda Baksh, her family graveyard near Larkana.

General Zia Ul Haq

Herald

Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq was a Pakistani military dictator and four-star general who served as the 6th President of Pakistan after declaring martial law in 1977. He ruled from 1978 until his death in 1988 and remains country’s longest-serving head of state after Ayub Khan.

Dawn

Zia died in a plane crash on 17 August 1988. After witnessing a US M1 Abrams tank demonstration in Bahawalpur, Zia had left the small town in the Punjab province by C-130B Hercules aircraft. The aircraft departed from Bahawalpur Airport and was expected to reach Islamabad International Airport. Shortly after a smooth takeoff, the control tower lost contact with the aircraft. Witnesses who saw the plane in the air afterward claim it was flying erratically, then nosedived and exploded on impact. In addition to Zia, 31 others died in the plane crash, including chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Akhtar Abdur Rahman, close associate of Zia, Brigadier Siddique Salik, the American Ambassador to Pakistan Arnold Lewis Raphel and General Herbert M. Wassom, the head of the US Military aid mission to Pakistan. Ghulam Ishaq Khan, the Senate chairman announced Zia’s death on radio and TV.

Salman Taseer

Salmaan Taseer was a Pakistani businessman and a liberal politician, who served as the 26th Governor of Punjab from 2008 until his assassination in 2011. He was appointed as the governor of Punjab on 15 May 2008, by then-President Musharraf at the request of Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani. During his governorship, he emerged as an outspoken critic of the Pakistan’s blasphemy laws and consequently called for the pardon for Asia Bibi.

Amnesty International

On 4 January 2011, he was assassinated at the Kohsar Market in Islamabad by his bodyguard, who disagreed with Taseer’s opposition to Pakistan’s blasphemy law. The Guardian described Taseer’s murder as “one of the most traumatic events in recent Pakistani history.” A nationwide three-day state of mourning was held in Pakistan.

Shahbaz Bhatti

Clement Shahbaz Bhatti popularly known as Shahbaz Bhatti, was a Pakistani politician and elected member of the National Assembly from 2008. He was the first Federal Minister for Minorities Affairs from November 2008 until his assassination on 2 March 2011 in Islamabad. Bhatti, a Roman Catholic, was an outspoken critic of Pakistan’s blasphemy laws and the only Christian in the Cabinet. Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan claimed responsibility for his killing and called him a blasphemer.

Bhatti had been the recipient of death threats since 2009, when he spoke in support of Pakistani Christians attacked in the 2009 Gojra riots in Punjab Province. These threats increased following his support for Asia Bibi, a Pakistani Christian sentenced to death in 2010 for blasphemy. The United States had tried to obtain increased security for him and get him an armoured car but was unsuccessful. Bhatti himself foretold his death and recorded a video, which was to be released in case of his death, where he said “I believe in Jesus Christ who has given his own life for us, and I am ready to die for a cause. I’m living for my community … and I will die to defend their rights.”

According to the BBC, Bhatti was travelling to work through a residential district, having just left his mother’s home, when his vehicle was sprayed with bullets. At the time of the attack he was alone, without any security. His driver reports having stopped the car and ducked when he saw armed men approaching rather than attempting to evade the threat. Bhatti was taken to a nearby hospital, but he was pronounced dead on arrival. The group Tehrik-i-Taliban told the BBC that they carried out the attack, because Bhatti was a “known blasphemer.” A Roman Catholic who had criticised Pakistan’s blasphemy law, his death follows that of Punjab governor Salman Taseer, who was also assassinated amid the controversy over the blasphemy law.

Justice For Prakash – Pakistanis Must Unite To Condemn Gang Rape Of Hindu Youth https://pakiholic.com/justice-for-prakash-pakistanis-must-unite-to-condemn-gang-rape-of-hindu-youth/ Thu, 05 Apr 2018 12:54:25 +0000 http://pakiholic.com/?p=5906 Members of the Hindu community gathered today in front of the Karachi Press Club to protest against the gang rape of a young Hindu youth.

As media reports come in, a young hindu youth, Prakash Kumar was found to be gang raped in the Sindh Mir Pur Bothr. Reports coming in suggest that a prominent politician of a major political party of Pakistan was also present while this heinous act was being performed. According to various updates, the culprit, Arbab Ibrahim has been arrested by the police and relevant authorities.

Main accused, Ibrahim, being taken away.

This incident brings to the forefront the neglect of our policy makers and police authorities in ensuring the protection of religious minorities in Pakistan. Pakistan’s government is constitutionally obliged to give all citizens of the country their due rights and access to justice and the freedom of religion.

The brutal rape and murder of seven-year-old Zainab in Kasur is not a one-off incident. As many as 11 cases of child sexual abuse are reported from across Pakistan every day, according to data collected by non-governmental organisation Sahil.

According to the latest numbers released by Sahil, an organisation that works on child protection with a special focus on sexual abuse, a total of 1,764 cases of child abuse were reported from across the country in the first six months of 2017 alone.

In the previous year, the total number of reported child abuse cases stood at a staggering 4,139, bringing the total number of children being abused in Pakistan per day to 11. According to data from Sahil, out of the total cases of child abuse from January to June 2017, 62 percent were reported from Punjab.

Here Is Why Your Hate For Malala’s Return Is Biased https://pakiholic.com/here-is-why-your-hate-for-malalas-return-is-biased/ Sun, 01 Apr 2018 09:54:46 +0000 http://pakiholic.com/?p=5638 Pakistan’s prolific icon of girls education and the fight against terrorism, Malala Yousafzai returned home to Pakistan after 5 years amidst support and criticism. Upon her arrival at the airport, the media frenzied around her to get a statement but she was whisked away to the Prime Minister House to address the press.

The world online has exploded. The sentiments are all over the place but the majority of them seem to be negative, callous and hateful. From being branded as a drama queen, unqualified to be winning a Nobel Peace Prize and faker, Malala Yousafzai has faced quite the rigorous hate from her own countrymen and women. To the educated, intelligent mind, this comes off as shallow and surprising. We have compiled a list of claims people have made and how they are wrong.

The Bullet To The Face Was Staged:

In early 2009, after Malala’s very prominent activism for girls education in the then terrorism stricken area of Swat, on her way back from exam she underwent a murder attempt. In the process she was shot in the head. Airlifted out of the area with the help of Pakistan Army she was shifted to Rawalpindi, where after stabilizing her condition she was shifted to a hospital in Birmingham.

This comes from people engineering a theory that an entire shooting was staged. True, the online pictures of Malala do not reflect on your post surgery face, which has tremendously healed. People draw comparisons between her and another APS student Waleed Khan, who studies in the UK after acquiring help from the same organization Malala helped fund.

Coming back to the theory that the whole shooting was staged. This is what a person who witnessed the entire incident has to say about it.

What Has Her Contribution Been To The Cause Of Education:

It is amazingly flabbergasting to read this. A girl, who got shot, because she advocated for education of girls in a region stricken by terrorism does not deserve this kind of mindless and unintelligent bias. What more does she have to prove apart from taking a bullet to the head. Ever since her childhood, she has been her fathers favorite in discussing poetry, politics and state of affairs of the country. Her family runs an entire school system in the region of Swat.

Since the inception of Malala Fund, it has actively been working in 9 countries around the world. In order to help the Syrian refugee girls to get access to better education, she has started to raise $1.4 billion.  Through the Malala Foundation, Yousafzai has donated around £750,000 (or USD 1 million) for various education-related causes. She even donated $50,000 of the prize money to rebuild a school in Gaza.

EPA/WAEL HAMZEH

Her Agenda Is A Conspiracy Theory:

Everything around Malala is considered a conspiracy. From her admission to Oxford, to her visit to Pakistan, to how she is funding her education movement. One is pleasantly surprised to see total silence in holding their own political leaders accountable when allegations of corruptions and embezzlement surfaced.

Why Was She Chosen For A Nobel Prize:

People draw comparisons between her and Abdul Sattar Edhi. True, Edhi Saab did humanitarian work way more than Malala ever did but he was also born way before her. In terms of sheer volume, Malala’s work pales in comparison but people tend to forget Edhi Saab did not like to bask in international limelight, even going to the extent of refusing donations from outside Pakistan. Perhaps the right question to ask is what has the Government of Pakistan done to ensure the legacy of his work continues?

These are two major points of arguments that one sees online. The hate seems to stem from a more patriarchal viewpoint, from men who despise seeing a girl/woman achieve things or do better than them.

From attempting to degrade her character, to drawing comparisons between unrelated things, Malala has to suffer severe online abuse. This gentleman sums it up perfectly.

Perhaps the very fact that people were mad and angry that she wasnt in Pakistan, only for her to return to have them screaming get out goes to show Pakistanis will never ever be happy with someone else’s achievement or produce an enabling environment for others to prosper.
