This day even existing in some countries is a major tragedy for the Muslims of 21st Century. The Islamophobia which has increased over the years post-9/11 and is becoming more evident with every passing year. This day would have been highly looked down upon about a decade ago, however it has a substantial amount of following in 2018 all over the world. Muslim communities in most Western countries are giving precautionary measures to fellow Muslims to be safe.
3rd April is the designated day for this heinousness and is majorly followed by individuals in the UK. Several WhatsApp messages circulating in Islamic communities have warned people about going outside and are encouraging them to lock their doors properly as April 3rd is the day chosen to carry out acts of violence against Muslims.
In March the law-enforcement agencies took actions against the propaganda being spread from anonymous sources. There were letters received at different locations that promoted the idea of punishing a muslim in any way possible.
A WhatsApp message explained the intense propaganda letter in full, including details about the ‘points system’ which is encouraging the torture, acid attacks, arson of mosques and assaults.
“This is not a joke its sick plan they have a pointing system where they will be giving points and reporting on a site with videos etc punishments include taking off hijabs…beating up and even acid throwing” – A report by ‘The Mirror’
The point system reportedly is a comprehensive plan to inflict damage upon a Muslim, and this act of terrorism would be rewarded. This is absolutely depressing for any human, to be discriminated against due to their religion. Is this what humanity has reduced down to ? Islam is the second largest religion on Earth, with billions of followers in every continent.
There are counter-narratives against such movement, there was one called “Appreciate a Muslim Day”, and several more. The community centers are doing their best to provide a safe location for Muslims under threat. Several prominent politicians have raised their voice against this movement as well, however the fact remains that this movement still has a following, and could result in a disastrous manner.
