Things seem to be shaping up nicely for the upcoming inauguration of the New Islamabad International Airport. The building of the airport is almost complete and the link roads and metro bus route that would connect the airport to Islamabad is currently under construction. On the other hand, the airport is soon going to have its official name as well. And already there is a pretty strong recommendation for the name of this new airport. Here is the recommended name of the airport along with some more interesting facts.
11 – The airport is likely to be named Quaid-e-Azam International Airport. This name was unanimously recommended by the National Assembly Standing Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privileges.
10 – The airport will be completed at a cost that is more 170 percent more than its initial estimate.
9 – The PC-1 of the airport was estimated to be completed at a cost of 37 Billion Rupees. However, it’s cost increased to 100 Billion Rupees.
8 – The new Islamabad International Airport is expected to serve 15 million passengers every year in the first phase.
7 – The new Islamabad International Airport will share the traffic burden of Bacha Khan International Airport (Peshawar), as the two cities are located close to each other and are interlinked via motorway.
6 – It is estimated that this new airport in Islamabad will cater to the needs of the city for the next 35 years.
5 – The new airport will have 90 check-in counters.
4 – It will have parking facility for 2,000 cars.
3 – The airport will be well linked to Islamabad city via the Kashmir Highway and a metro bus route.
2 – According to the officials of the CAA about 96 percent work related to the building of the airport has been completed.
